Marcos Navarro, barcelonés de 29 años, actualmente vive en Donostia. Trabaja como ilustrador freelance para el sector del diseño textil, al mismo tiempo que desarrolla su ilustración más personal.
Maddi Martínez de Murguía, donostiarra de 28 años, ha estudiado en Barcelona, en la escuela de diseño Elisava, y trabaja actualmente como diseñadora gráfica en San Sebastián.
Algunas estrellas confirmadas Diana Krall, Gloria Gaynor, Brandford Marsalis con Kurt Elling, Brad Mehldau con John Scofield y Mark Guiliana, Ibrahim Maalouf y Christian Scott son las primeras confirmaciones del Heineken Jazzaldia 2016. El festival donostiarra celebra su quincuagésimo primera edición del 20 al 25 de julio. Su más de medio siglo de vida acercando el mejor jazz del momento a San Sebastián le ha convertido en una de las citas imprescindibles en el calendario, no solo nacional, sino también internacional, convocando a aficionados de todo el mundo en los diversos escenarios. Laurence Hobgood's new February 2016 release, Honor Thy Fathers, is a stunning dedication to the personal influences and inspirations of the virtuosic pianist, composer, arranger, and educator. Best known for his 18–year tenure as musical director for Kurt Elling, Laurence Hobgood played on, composed/arranged for, and co–produced 10 acclaimed albums by the singer – including the GRAMMY Award–winning Dedicated To You: Kurt Elling Sings The Music Of Coltrane and Hartman, named Best Vocal Jazz Album of 2009. As a leader, the pianist has released such acclaimed discs as When The Heart Dances (2007), a duet session with iconic bassist Charlie Haden; PoemJazz (2012), an adventurous collaboration with U.S. poet laureate Robert Pinsky; and the 2013 holiday collection Christmas, which the Chicago Tribune’s Howard Reich called “one of the most appealing recordings of an already distinguished career.” Honor Thy Fathers features original compositions and novel arrangements of popular tunes.

This is a monumental concert event with the two living giants of Brazilian music making a rare Bay Area appearance together, celebrating 50 years of incredible songs and performing material from their new live album, Dois Amigos, um Século de Música(Two Friends, a Century of Music). Founding members of Brazil’s Tropicália movement and both born in the cultural hotbed of Bahia, Gil and Veloso radically reinvented Brazilian popular music in the mid-60s by combining Beatlesque psychedelia, art rock and Brazil’s northeastern roots rhythms. Additionally, both were jailed and later deported as dangerous musical subversives by the Brazilian government in the late 60s.
Since returning to Brazil from his London exile in the early 1970s, Gil has held center stage as a charismatic performer and songwriter with several dozen standards to his credit, which have been covered by just about every major Brazilian artist of the past four decades. In recent years he has found inspiration in the joyful, upbeat accordion-drivenforró style of music and dance, and served as Brazil’s minister of culture from 2003-2008.
Caetano Veloso places global pop, jazz and folk styles into a prism and conjures music that is uniquely his own. His self-titled 1968 LP was a revolutionary statement, launching Tropicália and helping to contemporize Brazilian popular culture by embracing international musical influences, and Veloso’s global stature as a songwriter has risen to that of John Lennon and Bob Dylan. Over 40 albums followed in the ensuing decades that continued to expand the scope of Brazilian music.
Both 73, these two artists’ influence across musical genres and geographic borders has been vast, yet their concert appearances remain the most important aspect of vital legacies still in progress.

On their latest recording, guitarist Dave Stryker and saxophonist Steve Slagle explore the Routes they've travelled, and the musical Roots they've explored in their creative collaboration of several decades. The Stryker / Slagle Band is expanded to include some imaginative and innovative 4-horn writing by Steve Slagle in an all-original program by Dave and Steve, as well as a Mingus masterpiece.
Some good things go right on, others change but are still wonderful. This terrific album is great news on both counts. What stays in place is that Stryker and Slagle remain the soul-satisfying, deep-groove, superchops players they've been across decades, and they continue to manifest their extraordinary collaborative powers. These guys get each other, and you hear it phrase by phrase over their careers. They've often been on each other's many projects, and all the more to the point is the magnificent series of quartet albums under the heading The Stryker/Slagle Band that has produced some of the hardest driving, most musically adventurous, and outright joyous music on the planet.
What does change electrifyingly in this new project is that the Stryker/Slagle Band's classic quartet format goes to an expanded lineup with keyboard and three additional horns. Slagle has written brilliant, multi-textured, engaging, flavorful horn arrangements that repay repeated listening. You keep hearing new things. Superb keyboardist Bill O'Connell is present on acoustic piano or Fender Rhodes on all but one track, and three ace horn players join the mix: Billy Drewes on tenor saxophone and bass clarinet, John Clark on French horn, and Clark Gayton on trombone and tuba. Since Stryker is often a single-line voice in the ensemble and Slagle doubles on alto and soprano saxophone and flute, the tonal colors multiply. Driving the band with constant, ripping energy are bassist Gerald Cannon and drummer McClenty Hunter, who also weigh in with riveting solos Increasing the richness of this dazzling project is that Stryker and Slagle have written songs they associate with the complex geographical and personal routes they've traveled to arrive in their present lives. Touchingly, then, this album is also all about roots. Both coasts and the Midwest come directly into focus, and the album's song titles and music movingly and impressively turn all of that power loose.

The music industry returns home to businesses worldwide with innovative ideas and products that will bring the power of music to the masses. Held January 21-24, NAMM welcomed a record number of exhibitors and registrants to Anaheim, CA. Hundreds of new-to-NAMM companies paired with an increase in global interest, and those quintessential “only at NAMM” moments made for what many NAMM members called the most exciting NAMM Show in the association’s 115-year history.
Anaheim Convention Center
As the scope of music making expands, so do the number of brands that depend on the NAMM Show platform to unveil new products. This year’s show was the largest and most inclusive event in the National Association of Music Merchants’ (NAMM) 115-year history. A record 1,726 exhibiting companies representing more than 6,000 brands brought the entrepreneurial spirit to life. The energy was palatable, with a 7% increase in exhibiting companies over 2015’s event.

A mix of NAMM member buyers and retail employees, exhibitors, media, artists, NAMM members’ invited guests, NAMM’s Generation Next (college music students) and Music Education Day participants (school music teachers) resulted in a record 101,736 NAMM Show registrants. This is a 2% increase over last year’s record-setting event.
The number of new companies relying on the NAMM show platform grew again, representing 409 of the total exhibiting companies. In addition to the new-to-NAMM names, 174 companies returned after a lapse of a year or more.
Latin Jazz
The NAMM Show’s global stature grew with 15,915 international registrants traveling to Anaheim from abroad, a 20% increase over 2015. Attendees came from every corner of the globe representing 125 different countries.
While retailers and distributors come to NAMM to make purchase decisions, the show is also the place to see the big picture of where the industry is heading, and spot potential growth areas for the year ahead.
Education
Then there are those moments, moments that only happen at a NAMM Show, when you look over and a legendary artist is demoing an instrument right next to you. With hundreds of major stars attending the show to support their brand partners, there were more of those moments this year than ever before.

Summer NAMM returns to Nashville’s beautiful Music City Center on June 23-25. Global growth opportunities abound at NAMM Musikmesse Russia, September 15-18 and ProLight + Sound NAMM Russia, September 15-17. The NAMM Show returns to Anaheim, January 19–22, 2017. Then in 2018, the global music product industry will return to Anaheim with room to grow into the new, modern wing of the Anaheim Convention Center that is currently under construction.
