Southern Exposure WeekTHU-SUN, SEPTEMBER 19-22SFJAZZ CENTER& DAVIES SYMPHONY HALL* This week, we celebrate the global concept of "south" with four incredibly diverse concerts. Called "the most charismatic performer of Indian Ragas" by The New York Times, sarod master Amjad Ali Khan kicks off the week, followed by a command performance by Texas-born jazz singer Kellye Gray. On Saturday, New Orleans icon Allen Toussaint performs a rollicking concert of solo piano, and Cuban music phenomenon Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club with Omara Portuondo, Eliades Ochoa and Guajiro Mirabal wrap the week.

Regina CarterResident Artistic DirectorTHU-SUN, SEPTEMBER 26-29SFJAZZ CENTER, MINER AUDITORIUM Regina Carter's week includes a violin summit with Carter, Jenny Scheinman and Sara Caswell. Next, Carter joins Argentine piano virtuoso Pablo Ziegler's quartet for an evening dedicated to tango giant Astor Piazzolla and Ziegler's own compositions. Pianist Kenny Barron performs with Carter in an intimate duet setting, and the week ends with her band, joined by vocalist Carla Cook and the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars.
