When you listen to a Bill O'Connell recording you may not know what is on the menu, but you're guaranteed it'll be a gourmet delight. Mr. O'Connell's Imagine serves up a 9-course feast of fascinating sounds that will please even the most discerning ears. As in O'Connell's previous recording (Zocálo Savant SCD 2129), the gifted veterans and leaders in their own right, Conrad Herwig on trombone and saxophonist Steve Slagle add their prowess to the mix. On the bass is the amazingly talented young man, one of NYC's first call bassists, Luques Curtis who was also part of Bill's prior CD, as was percussionist Richie Flores, who has been playing with O'Connell for more than a decade. The newcomer to the group is drummer Richie Barshay who has an impressive résumé that includes a stint with Herbie Hancock. O’Connell gives his arranging chops a real workout with interesting takes on “Willow Weep for Me” and John Lennon’s “Imagine,” and penned some new originals specifically for this recording from a powerful voice in Latin Jazz. |

MY DANCE is a collection of Judi Silvano’s original songs, each with a story of its own. Conceived from Judi’s experiences of life and love, some tunes have lyrics while others leave the story to the listener’s imagination. These are collaborative
arrangements between two creative improvisers at the top of their game.
Judi Silvano has toured and recorded with artists including Kenny Werner, Joe Lovano, Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, Steve Swallow, Tim Hagans, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Mal Waldron, Larry Goldings, Vic Juris, Victor Lewis, Rufus Reid, Dick Oatts, Ingrid Jensen, Janice Friedman, Allison Miller, George Garzone, Michael Formanek, Gerry Hemingway and Newman Taylor Baker. She has penned over 40 songs and chamber music compositions which reflect her broad imagination. Ms. Silvano sings from the heart! Her lucid virtuosity and increasingly mature lyric interpretation engages the listener in any setting from duo to large ensemble. She has sung in ensembles conducted by Gunther Schuller, Robert Shaw, Manny Albam, Byron Olson and Justin DiCioccio among others and Lori Dobbins composed “Sketches For Silvano” for her. Silvano also plays flute/alto flute and paints in Oil, Watercolor, Pastel
and Encaustic paints. This is her 11th recording as a leader.
Michael Abene’s bio reads like the history of 20th century American music while he continues bringing his enormous contributions into the 21st century as Arranger, Conductor and Pianist. His youthful post for the Maynard Ferguson Jazz Orchestra at the age of 18 as Pianist and Arranger catapulted him into the world of large ensembles where he continues to excel to this day. Michael has worked with such artists as: Liza Minnelli, Patti Austin, Randy Brecker, Maceo Parker, Eddie Daniels, Tom Harrell, Paquito D’Rivera,
Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Judi Silvano, Fay Claasson, New York Voices and Joe Lovano, with whom he collaborated on the Grammy nominated
CD “Symphonica” and released on Blue Note Records.
Mr. Abene has been Musical Director and Arranger of Cologne, Germany’s world-reknown WDR Big Band for the past 10 years, the Associate
Music Director of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, Associate Professor of Jazz Composition at Manhattan School of Music in New York City
and is presently Professor of Ensemble Conducting at KUG Jazz Institute in Graz, Austria. Mr. Abene is also an accomplished and swinging pianist
as is evidenced on this recording!
