In 1998, Free Radicals’ first CD “The Rising Tide Sinks All” warned against the next Iraq War four years before it started. A decade later, Pakistan’s leading English newspaper, Dawn, called the CD “a premonition waiting to become true.” In 2012, Free Radicals' fourth CD “The Freedom Fence” warned against border walls four years before Trump made them a cornerstone of his campaign for president.
Now on its 20th year, Free Radicals presents a new CD “Outside the Comfort Zone,” that warns against a white supremacist apartheid society in which consumers are oblivious to human rights abuses going on right outside the window.
Free Radicals is a horn-driven instrumental dance band with a commitment to peace and justice, and is the 13 time winner for “Best Jazz” in the Houston Press Music Awards. Equally comfortable performing in clubs, street protests, punk rock house-parties, art openings, weddings, funerals, and breakdance competitions, Free Radicals prides itself in adaption and supporting members of targeted communities for whom “apartheid” is not merely a metaphor.
On the new recording, Free Radicals welcomes many guests including Harry Sheppard & Damon Choice, two elder vibraphonists who played with Benny Goodman and Sun Ra Arkestra respectively, along with a dozen other long time collaborators.
“The horn-heavy, continually evolving collective Free Radicals produces a wildly eclectic fusion that has as many influences as there are items in the Houston, Texas, pawnshop in which they honed their sound during all-night jam sessions.” - The New Yorker

From subtle to sexy to swinging, Chris Pasin and friends shine a brilliant light on the best yuletide favorites
Nothing gets music lovers in a celebrating mood like listening to their favorite carols, and this brand-new CD, Baby, It’s Cold Outside, delivers a whopping dose of holiday cheer. On 11 of the most-beloved sounds of the season, trumpeter Chris Pasin and friends show they have a real gift for making such familiar material their own, while maintaining the spirit and warmth that’s such a major part of the yuletide celebrations.
Equally comfortable on both trumpet and ugelhorn, leader Chris Pasin has proved himself among the most versatile of musicians. Besides fronting his own bands, he’s been a mainstay of ensembles led by the likes of Buddy Rich, Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin, George Russell, and Brother Jack McDu . Pasin has also appeared with legendary gures including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme and Ray Charles, to name a few.
For Baby, It’s Cold Outside, Pasin has assembled a stellar ensemble of some of the most in-demand musicians on the New York jazz scene. Among them: pianist Armen Donelian (Sonny Rollins, Chet Baker, Paquito D’Rivera); bassists Ira Coleman (Freddie Hubbard, Betty Carter, Herbie Hancock) and Rich Syracuse (Mose Allison, Bernard Purdy, Kurt Elling); drummer Je Siegel (Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, Sheila Jordan); singer Patricia Dalton Fennell (Dave Holland, Giacomo Gates, Pete Levin); and guitarist Peter Einhorn (Joe Lovano, Placido Domingo, Jim Hall).
Highlights from Baby, It’s Cold Outside include:
“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”: Here’s a subtle, sensitive and understated version of a classic that steers clear of the overly sentimental, right from Donelian’s heart-felt piano opener. “We Three Kings”: Uptempo and bursting with energy, the band brings great drive and brilliant feeling to this beloved carol, which features an excellent solo from leader Pasin. “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”: Check out the sexy and playful collaboration between Pasin and vocalist Patricia Dalton Fennell. The twosome demonstrate their wit and camaraderie as they work their seductive skills on the lyrics. “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”: A very welcome new take on a traditional tune turns it into a cooker; the great rhythmic drive makes it downright danceable. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Pasin and Einhorn shine on solos in this unique treatment of a 1940s-vintage hit.
Pasin and friend’s fresh take on the greatest songs of the season celebrate the beloved classics in an original and vastly appealing style. Listeners will enjoy old favorites in a new way this holiday season, thanks to the great renditions performed by this talented and creative ensemble.

Andromeda Turre"Shine" Project
CD To Feature:Steve Turre, Orion Turre, Rahsaan Carter, James Carter, Sachal Vasandani, Ray Angry and Warren Wolf!
After studying at Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory, New York City native Andromeda Turre kickstarted her career as the last Raelette hired to sing for Ray Charles.
Producing two albums on her own, Andromeda has spent the last 10 years capturing the hearts of fans all across Europe, Asia & Russia. Now, having truly found her own voice, she is ready to make her debut in her home country.
The August release of her live EP consists of four new videos. A re-imagination of the classic "Pennies From Heaven", a re-harmonization of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and two original songs, "Alive" and "Golden". "Golden" features her father Steve Turre and her brother, Orion Turre plays drums on all tracks, making it a family affair.
John di Martino - piano
Rashaan Carter - bass
Orion Turre - drums
CD Special Guests:
Steve Turre - trombone/shells
James Carter - saxophones
Sachal Vasandani - vocals
Ray Angry - keyboards
Warren Wolf - vibes
The spirit of rebellion and ripeness is embodied within Smells Like Teen Spirit. When I hear it, I feel like I can walk through flames. This song gave me power when I was an awkward teenager who didn't fit in, so I wanted to return to that source of power to help me have the courage to put myself out there.
It was conceptualized as a collaboration with my brother, Orion, who plays drums on the track. He did the arrangement and I changed up some of the lyrics and melody to suit my voice and my story. The ability to present this song in a way that is relevant to the style of music I sing today gives me a mature sense of authority that I hope is internalized when people hear it.
